What we know as tsunami alerts issued after massive Russia earthquake

A huge earthquake of 8.8 -magnitude off the Far East Coast of Russia led to Tsunami warnings across the Pacific Ocean.

The earthquake, which was struck near the Russian Peninsula of Kamchatka at approximately 11:25 am local time on Wednesday (00:25 GMT), is one of the most powerful people who were ever registered.

About two million people were requested to evacuate Japan, Russia and some parts of the United States.

Alerts were also issued in China, the Philippines, Indonesia, New Zealand, and even as much as Peru and Mexico.

What is the damage caused by the earthquake and tsunami so far?

Videos showing large waves appeared in the previous buildings in the town of Severo Corelilsk, Russia. The authorities say that the 4m waves (13 feet) flooded the port and an attachment to fishing, and the vessels were swept from their marinals. The power network was also damaged in the Sakhlin region in Russia.

In Japan, about 1.9 million people were asked to evacuate and the authorities urged the population to reach higher land. The primary waves that reach the country were relatively small, but the meteorological agency says it could grow to 3 million (9.8 feet).

In Hawaii, officials first warned of 10 potential waves, but the tsunami that covers the island has now been reduced to the advisory level, the Tsunami Warning Center said in the Pacific Ocean.

This means that there are capabilities of strong waves, simple floods and powerful currents, but it is not expected to hit the main tsunami. Stephen Logan, director of the Hawaiian Emergency Management Agency, said that those who were evacuated may return to the homeland.

How bad is harm?

Until now, the damage does not seem bad as he was afraid first – although tsunami is continuing across the Pacific.

“Until now, scientists are running new models to try to improve initial expectations,” Chris Goldenger, a professor of marine geology at Oregon State University at Oregon State University, told BBC Breakfast.

“Every country, every port, and each coast will face a special response on the site. Some places will be somewhat slim, some of which are very dangerous.”

He said that the extent of influence depends largely on the road to the energy that radiates from the Russian Peninsula. The areas that are in line with that energy – almost southeast of the earthquake center – are expected to be the most affected.

He said that it takes about eight to nine hours “to Tsunami from Kamchatka to reach the American West Coast.

What is the time frame?

The earthquake was hit at approximately 11:25 am local time (00:25 am GMT) on Wednesday.

Tsunami waves hit parts of the western coast of North America at approximately 12.20 am local time (09.20 am GMT).

Then the waves are expected to strike areas including Tacoma Port in Washington at 2.20 am (11.20 am GMT) and NOME, Alaska at 03.20 am (12.20 pm GMT).

“There is a good base of the thumb for tsunami that is traveling quickly around the speed of a jet plane,” told Helen Janeszosky, an assistant professor at the Department of Geophysics and Technology at Hawaii University.

She said: “If you are thinking about the time it will take to travel by plane from one place to another, this is the time that the waves take to travel from the earthquake center to hit another place.”

How do you compare previous earthquakes?

The American Geological Survey said the earthquake was a relatively shallow-up to a depth of 20.7 km (12 miles), focusing on 119 km east of Petropavlovsk-kamchatsky.

It was initially recorded as an 8.0 -size earthquake but was later reviewed. A series of strong final tremors was also recorded.

It is linked to the sixth more sharp earthquake in history, with a 2010 earthquake in BIOBíO, Chile, and 1906 earthquake in Esmeraldas, Ecuador.

It was the fifth most severe earthquake in Kamchcca Crai, Russia, in 1952. “The first registered earthquake in the world 9” was.

In comparison, the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake – which was killed by more than 227,000 people – was an earthquake from 9.2-9.3.

Which struck about 160 km from the western coast of Sumatra, Indonesia – a populated area. The Russian Kamchatka Peninsula has a very low population density.
