US to partially evacuate embassy in Iraq over security threats

Government sources said that the employees of the non -essential American embassy and their exalted in Baghdad should be evacuated from Iraq due to an increase in security risks.

The officials have not said exactly what prompted the removal, however, in recent days, it seems that talks about the Iranian nuclear program have stopped.

“We are constantly evaluating the position of employees in all our embassies,” a US State Department official told the BBC on Wednesday.

“Based on our latest analysis, we decided to reduce the imprint of our mission in Iraq.”

The move comes after weeks of talks between the United States and Iran – President Trump was hoping to conclude a deal to prevent Tehran from developing a nuclear weapon.

Trump said on Wednesday that it was less confident that Iran would stop enriching uranium.

Earlier this week, he made a 40 -minute phone call – it was said to be “tense” – with the Israeli Prime Minister, who has long argued over a military, not diplomatic approach.

On Wednesday evening, he was asked about the decision to evacuate employees of multiple parts of the Middle East. Trump said: “Well, they are taken out because it may be a dangerous place, and we will see what is happening.”

He added: “But they were so – and we made a notice of exit, and we will see what is happening.”

With nuclear conversations at a critical moment, it was not yet clear the amount of the United States announced the signal rather than real anxiety.

However, Iranian Defense Minister Aziz Nasserazadeh said that his country will be defected against the US bases in the region if the talks fail and Trump ordered military strikes against the Islamic Republic.

Reuters news agency reported that US Defense Minister Beit Higseth also agreed to the voluntary departure of American military individuals families throughout the Middle East, including Kuwait and Bahrain.

The Pentagon is witnessing to the Congress Committee on Wednesday that he believes that there are “many indicators” that Iran “is moving on its way towards something very similar to a nuclear weapon.”

Iran says that its uranium enrichment program is intended for civil energy generation and that it is not trying to build a atomic bomb.

Also on Wednesday, the UK’s Maritime Trade Operations Organization issued a part of the Royal Navy – a warning that the increase in military tensions in the Middle East may affect shipping.

The price of oil initially increased by more than 4 % when the evacuation news broke out in the United States, in anticipation of regional insecurity, which is likely to lead to problems.

There are about 2,500 American soldiers in Iraq, according to the Ministry of Defense.
