Ukraine will not give up land, Zelensky says ahead of Trump-Putin meeting

Ukrainian President Foludmir Zelinski confirmed that he will not make any regional concessions to Russia before a meeting between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin about the future of the war in Ukraine.

Hours before the announcement of the meeting, Trump indicated that Ukraine may have to waive lands to end the war, which began to invade Russia on a large scale in February 2022.

“The Ukrainians will not give their lands to the occupier,” Zelinski said in a telegram post on Saturday. He reiterated that Ukraine should participate in any peace solution, and he said that he is ready to work with partners for “real” and “permanent” peace.

Zelinski said that Ukraine “will not present Russia’s awards for what it did.”

“The answer to the Ukrainian regional issue is already present in the constitution of Ukraine. No one does and cannot deviate from this,” he added.

His statement followed Trump’s comments at the White House on Friday that “there will be some land exchange, to improve both.”

“You are looking at the lands that have gone through three and a half years, the death of many Russians. Many Ukrainians have died,” the US President said.

No more details about the form of any such suggestion.

Trump later announced the meeting between him and Putin, saying that more details will follow. The meeting was later confirmed by the Kremlin.

Zelinski said on Saturday that Ukraine is ready for “real solutions that can bring peace” but confirmed that Ukraine needs to participate.

“Any solutions against us, any solutions without Ukraine, are simultaneous solutions against peace,” he said.

“We are ready, with President Trump, with all partners, to work for real peace, and most importantly, peace will not collapse due to Moscow’s desires.”
