Two dead after plane crashes into California factory

Two people were killed and 18 others were injured after a small plane crashed into a commercial building in Southern California, officials said.

Ten people were taken to the hospital with injuries, the Fullerton Police Department said in an X post Thursday afternoon. Eight others were treated for their injuries and released at the scene.

The single-engine RV-10 crashed at 14:15 PT (20:15 GMT), according to the Federal Aviation Administration.

Officials did not provide further details about how the accident occurred. It is unclear whether the two people who died were workers or were on board the plane.

Police said they were evacuating buildings in the area, and asking the public to stay away from the accident site.

Congressman Lou Correa, who represents the Orange County area, about 25 miles (40 kilometers) south of Los Angeles, said the building that was bombed was a furniture manufacturing company.

In a post on X, Correa said at least a dozen of the victims were factory workers.

Aerial photos of the scene show parts of the plane inside the building. The accident also caused a fire, which fire crews put out.

Security footage recorded from a building across the street showed a fiery explosion, according to local media.

Witness Mark Anderson said: “People were shaken by the situation.” KRCA-TV.

“It was just a big bang, and then someone came out and said, ‘Oh my God, the building is on fire.’

The area where the plane crashed is near Fullerton Municipal Airport, about 6 miles (10 kilometers) from Disneyland.

The plane appeared to be returning to the airport shortly after takeoff, according to KRCA-TV.

This is the second plane to crash in the region in the past two months, according to CBS, the BBC’s partner in the US.
