US President Donald Trump said he would try to restore some lands to Ukraine during his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday.
“Russia has occupied a large part of Ukraine. They have occupied the main lands. We will try to restore some of this region to Ukraine,” he said at a press conference.
Trump said that the talks in Alaska will be a “feeling of feeling” aimed at urging Putin to end the war, and that there will be “some swap, changes on the ground.”
This is not the first time that the phrase “land exchange” is used, although it is unclear what can be waived from the land of Russia to Ukraine.. Kyiv did not demand any Russian regions.
Trump said he would update European leaders if Putin suggested a “fair deal” during the talks, adding that he would talk to Ukraine President Voludmir Zelinsky first “respect.”
“I will call him first … I will call him after that, and I may say,” a lot of luck, continue to fight, “or might say,” we can make a deal. “
Trump also said that while he and Zelinski communicate, “he does not agree strongly with what he did.” Trump has already blamed Zelinski in the war in Ukraine, which was raised by the full invasion of Russia in February 2022.
The US President announced that the meeting with Putin last Friday – the day of the deadline imposed on themselves for Russia to agree to a ceasefire or face more US sanctions.
In response to the news of the Alaska summit, Zelinski said that any agreements without inputs from Kyiv will win “dead decisions.”
