Thousands are pushing their respect for the veteran Indian Communist leader against Achuthanandan, whose funeral will be held on Wednesday.

VS, as popularly known, died on Monday at the age of 101. He was a founding member of the largest communist party in India and former Prime Minister in the southern state of Kerala.

Tens of thousands of people collected the streets to honor the politician, who is widely considered one of the most influential figures in Kerala’s political history.

Achuthanandan was forced to get rid of school as a child, overcome poverty and torture in the police custody to become one of the most beloved state leaders.

He was treated at a hospital in therofananathaburam after he was stroked last month. His funeral will be held near his hometown in the Alappuzha area with full honors of the country.
