South Africa’s Constitutional Court rules that men can take wife’s surname

The highest South African court ruled that husbands could take the title of their wives, which led to the volatility of a law that prevents them from doing so.

In the victory of two couples who brought the case, the Constitutional Court ruled that the law was a gender -based discrimination.

Henry van der Meroy was rejected the right to take the title of his wife, Jana Jordan, while Andreas Nicholas Burman was unable to put him in his title to include Dunili, the title of his wife, Jess Dunlli, the mall, according to the public broadcaster, SABC.

Parliament will now have to amend the law of gathering and deaths, along with its regulations, for the verb.

The couple argued that the law was ancient and Patriarchate, and violated the rights of equality stipulated in the constitution that adopted South Africa at the end of the rule of white rulings.

They succeeded in challenging the law in the lower court, but they asked the highest court to confirm its ruling.
