Shakur Stevenson Says Abdullah Mason Is “not Ready” For Him

Shakur Stevenson says WBO lightweight champion Abdullah Mason is not “ready” to fight him. He claims there are “levels”, and believes Mason (20-0, 17 KO) is not ready at 21 years old.

“There are levels”

Stevenson was not impressed with Abdullah’s recent performance, as he beat Sam Noakes by 12-round unanimous decision to win the vacant WBO lightweight title on 22 November. He felt Mason had been beaten too hard in that fight, and he didn’t like the idea of him fighting wars so early in his career.

It’s performances like this that make Mason one of the most popular fighters in the 135-pound division. He can address cards that fight this way. In contrast, Shakur is 28 years old and has been fighting on the undercard due to his boring style of fighting.

“They’re throwing it at me. I’m OK with that. I’ll give it a chance,” Shakur Stevenson said. Cigar Talk About how he agreed to fight Abdullah Maysoon. “I was saying we could gossip.”

Mason will likely beat everyone Shakur fought during his eight-year pro career and has a more impressive record. Shakur is 24-0 with 11 knockouts. If Mason fights the same guys, his record could be close to perfect at 24-0 with 24 knockouts.

Shakur says Mason isn’t ready

“Now, do I think he’s ready? No. He’s young,” Shakur said of Mason. “There are levels to how good he is and how good he is now. There are levels to how good he is and how good he is now,” Shakur said when asked if he was impressed with Abdullah’s performance against Sam Knox.

It is unlikely that he would agree to fight Mason because that would be too risky for him and would ruin his career.

“Being young in this type of fight, I think he wasn’t very good. I didn’t see a lot of things I liked. I liked his offense. Offensively, he’s a great fighter. I think he has a lot of holes in his game. He’s a good fighter, though,” Shakur said.
