Real Madrid v Celta Vigo: Line-ups, stats and preview

Summary of the Real Madrid and Celta Vigo match

real madrid Coach Xabi Alonso has drawn comparisons between Kylian Mbappé and… Cristiano Ronaldo Before tomorrow’s match at home against Celta Vigo.

Mbappe enters the competition with 55 goals with Real Madrid this year, just four goals shy of Ronaldo’s record in 2013.

The French forward scored twice in the 3-0 win over Athletic Bilbao in midweek and will fancy his chances of at least drawing with Ronaldo with Madrid having four games left to play in 2025.

“Kylian is on his way to making history at Real Madrid, just like Cristiano did,” Alonso said this afternoon. “With his ambition and his statistics… he is one of the chosen few.

“Working with him on a daily basis is great. His desire to influence others, his infectious energy, is something he shares with Cristiano. There, I see the similarities.”

Alonso played alongside Ronaldo at Madrid and refused to say which of the strikers was the better.

He added: “Cristiano is Cristiano, and Kylian is Kylian. They are both exceptional. We are very lucky to have Kylian, and we have to make the most of that.”

The only downside to their midweek win at San Mames is Trent Alexander-Arnold suffering a thigh injury that could keep him out for up to two months.

This could result in midfielder Federico Valverde having to return to fill in at right-back, something he is reluctant to do.

“We will have to evaluate the decision we will make, but there are other options,” Alonso said. “Fedi always puts the team first. I remember the great matches he played against Barcelona and Juventus. He is generous and wants to help the team.”

Celta Vigo ranks 12th in the Spanish League after losing to Espanyol last weekend.
