Putin feels he must respond to Ukraine’s drone attacks, Trump warns

US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that he had a “good conversation” with Russian President Vladimir Putin, in a call about the recent drone attack in Ukraine and Iran.

After the main drone attack in Ukraine on air bases inside Russia, Trump stated that Putin told him that Russia would “have to respond.”

Trump also warned in a social media post that the phone call, which lasted for more than an hour, would not “lead to an immediate peace.”

The two leaders also discussed Iran, and Putin suggested that it could help in nuclear talks with the country.

The conversation between the first two leaders since Ukraine has launched a bold attack that attracts attention on June 1, targeting long -term bombers that can nuclear weapons.

In his post, Trump said that Putin told him – “with great strength” – that he “would have to respond to the recent attacks on airports.”

Last week, Trump seemed to have set a two -week deadline for Putin, threatening to change how the United States responds to Russia if he believed Putin is still “clicking” on the peace effort in Ukraine.

The comment was one of Trump’s decisive notes, which he said earlier that Putin had become “completely crazy” and “playing with fire” when Russia intensified drones and missile attacks on targets in Ukraine.

Trump did not mention any deadline or his previous statements on Wednesday on his social platform.

This position also comes a few days after a second round of direct peace talks between the two warring sides, which was held in Istanbul, ended without a big penetration, although the two sides agreed to switch more war prisoners.

Ukrainian negotiators said Russia has refused a “unconditional ceasefire” – a major demand from Kiev and its Western allies, including the United States.

The Russian team said that they suggested the ceasefire on several days in “certain areas” of the front lines in Ukraine, although they did not provide more details.

Trump said before – and repeatedly – he believed that the two sides are making progress, despite the ongoing fighting on the front lines and air attacks carried out in both Russia and Ukraine.

In addition, Trump said that in the call he and Putin Iran discussed Iran, and he believed that the two were “agreed” that “Iran could not have a nuclear weapon.”

According to what was reported, the United States suggested that Iran has stopped all enriched uranium production – which can be used to make reactor fuel but also nuclear weapons – and instead it depends on a regional consortium for supplies. Iran has not yet responded to the plan presented in the talks last Saturday.

According to Trump, Putin suggested that he would participate in discussions with Iran and that he may be useful in obtaining a quick conclusion.

“This is my opinion that Iran was slow to follow its decision on this very important issue,” Trump wrote. “We will need a final answer in a very short period of time.”
