Plan to recognise Palestinian state a big change for British foreign policy

The BBC International Editor, Jeremy Bowen, described the UK’s plans to recognize a Palestinian state as a “major change in British foreign policy.”

Prime Minister Sir Kerr Starmer said that the United Kingdom will get to know a Palestinian state at a United Nations meeting in September unless Israel takes “fundamental steps to end the horrific situation in Gaza.”

Speaking of Jerusalem, Bowen warned that he was “unlikely” that Israel will meet all the conditions, which include a ceasefire and a long -term peace process.
