Public prosecutors and lawyers of Harvey Winstein on Wednesday gave trial to the disgraceful film producer, as the general prosecutors accused him of using his strength in Hollywood to abuse sexual treatment and harass three women.
“The defendant wanted their bodies, and the more they resisted, the more powerful it gets,” said Shannon Lucy, assistant jury on Wednesday.
In his third trial five years ago, Winztein was accused of sexual assault on a former TV production assistant, an ambitious actress and a model.
The former Mogul acknowledged that he was not guilty, and in the court his lawyer sought doubt about women’s claims and credibility.
Lawyer Arthur Edala told the jury that the prosecution case “will fall on her face” after they heard all the evidence.
“They will ask you to understand the meaningless things,” he said.
The Court of Appeal canceled the former Winsetein’s conviction of sexual crimes in New York last April, before accusing him of the new sexual assault in the state in September.
During the first week of the re -trial, 12 jurors – seven women and five men – were chosen to weigh the fate of Winstein.
Last April, the Court of Appeal said that 73 -year -old Winstein had not received a fair trial because the judge who supervises his case allowed his testimony from women who performed allegations against him because of his behavior he was never accused.
Winstein was serving a 23 -year prison sentence in New York Prison after his conviction in 2020.
He was also convicted of rape in a separate trial in California in 2022 and sentenced to 16 years in prison in this case.
New York’s re -trial is likely to include a two -woman certificate that brought allegations against Winstein to trial in 2020. Actress Jessica Man and former TV production assistant, Myriam Haley, witnessed at the time.
This time, the trial will also include a unveiled woman who claims that Winstein has gave oral sex at the Manhattan Hotel in 2006.
Winstein has many medical conditions, including cancer and diabetes. In September, he was transferred to the hospital for a heart surgery and held in a safe hospital unit.
The judge agreed to a request from Winstein’s lawyer to allow him to stay at the Bulfo Hospital in Manhattan when he is not in court.
His lawyers had complained that he was receiving a weak medical treatment in non -formulation conditions in the Esophageal Island Prison facility – which officials have long said they were planning to close – despite the delay in this step.
In total, Winstein was accused of sexual misconduct, assault and rape by more than 100 women.
He is likely to spend his life in prison, as he has not yet started spending a 16 -year prison sentence in California.
The decision to accuse him of progress, and his subsequent condemnation in New York, motivated the #Metoo movement against sexual assault by strong men.
Before the allegations appeared against him, Winstein and his brother Bob were among the Hollywood power players.
Weinstein participated in the founding of Miramax Film Studio, whose songs Shakespeare included in love, who won the Best Academy Awards Award and Pulp Fitch.
His films received more than 300 Oscars and 81 wins.
The former Mogul also faced a number of civil lawsuits, including a group of women who accused it of sexual harassment and rape and reached a settlement of $ 19 million (14.2 pounds) in 2020.
