Newcastle striker Yoan Wissa is close to making his debut for the club.
The former Brentford man He suffered a knee injury while on international duty with the Democratic Republic of Congo in September before he could kick a ball for the Magpies.
Newcastle faces Burnley at St James’ Park on Saturday, and Howe indicated that Wesa is progressing well.
Boss Howe said: “He’s getting closer. We played him 11v11 on Wednesday and that was good, that was more minutes for him.
“He played about half an hour. He did well, so we’ll see how he is today. Touch wood, he’s looked good so far and he’s come through everything.”
“I always say in these situations, we still have training today and we have to make a decision on whether he is ready not just to be fit, but to be fit to make a difference and fit to perform at his highest levels.”
However, Howe remained mum on whether Wisa could remain on the bench for Saturday’s game.
“I don’t know, let’s wait and see,” Hao said. “We have a training session today and I will evaluate all the players.
He added: “It will be a big boost for us and a great support for the team to have someone with his experience, competence and quality return to the group.
“We just have to keep in mind the length of time he’s been out and the lack of training he’s had, because usually we want to give him more before we get him back on the field.”
