Former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was convicted of crimes against humanity and sentenced to death.
A special court in Dhaka found her responsible for ordering a violent crackdown on student-led protests last year, during which the United Nations estimates up to 1,400 people were killed, most by security force fire.
Hasina described the court’s decision as “biased and politically motivated” in a statement issued after the ruling.
