Manhunt after mass shooting leaves ten dead including children

A gunman killed at least 10 people, including two children, in southern Montenegro and remains at large, police said.

At least some of the deaths occurred inside a restaurant in the Cetinje area, before the suspect moved to other locations.

Public radio RTCG quoted a police official as saying that a verbal altercation between guests preceded the shooting.

Prime Minister Milojko Spaić described the shooting as a “terrible tragedy” and his government declared three days of national mourning starting Thursday.

The gunman killed members of his family, two of the restaurant owner’s sons, and also the restaurant owner, according to Interior Minister Danilo Saranovic.

Saranovic described the incident as “the result of troubled personal relationships,” according to Agence France-Presse.

The agency quoted the Prime Minister as saying that four people were in serious condition in hospital after being seriously injured in the shooting.

Reuters reported that the suspect had previously been arrested for possession of weapons.

Mass shootings are relatively rare in the small Balkan country.
