President Emmanuel Macron appointed a close ally Sebastian Licoreno as the new French prime minister, 24 hours after the confidence vote, Francois Bayro as head of his government.
Lecornu was among the candidates to take over the job, and in a statement said Elysée Palace that he gave the task of consulting political parties with the aim of adopting the upcoming France budget.
Bayro visited the president hours before his handing over his resignation, paving the way for Lecorno to become the fifth prime minister of Macron as president.
