Liverpool striker Mohamed Salah’s loss of level made him four times Premier League Leeds United coach Daniel Farke said the Golden Boot winner was “very dangerous”.
Salah scored 29 goals in the 2024/25 season to finish with six more than any other player in the Premier League, but the revered striker has scored five goals in 18 appearances in all competitions this season and was left out for the first time of the season during the Reds’ 2-0 win over West Ham in their last away game, remaining an unused substitute.
“The more matches he played without scoring a goal or assisting, the more likely he was to score or make an assist,” Farke said, acknowledging a “difficult” period for Salah, whose tally of four goals in the First Division this season equaled his teammate Cody Jacobo.
“We just have to make sure the period lasts for another game. I’m sure he will be there, at the end of the season, with many goals.
“He’s still there – he’s the top scorer in the league for them – so I have no doubt he will do unbelievable things this season. He’s done that his whole career.”

Leeds vs Liverpool: Van Dijk and Konate are “outstanding”
Leeds host Liverpool on Saturday after achieving their best result so far this season on Wednesday, beating title hopefuls Chelsea 3-1 at Elland Road thanks to goals from Jaka Pigol, Ao Tanaka and Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
The result moved last season’s tournament winners three points clear of the relegation zone, while Liverpool – who left Salah on the bench until the end of the first half – failed to win for the 10th time in their last 14 matches in all competitions with a 1-1 draw at home to Sunderland, who would have won had it not been for Nordi Mukele’s own goal in the 81st minute.
“until [current Premier League top scorer] Farke said about Salah: “Erling Haaland had a period where he did not score goals,” and he also offered his support to the centre-backs Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konate.
“Then it’s always in the spotlight because it’s unusual. I wouldn’t describe, with Van Dijk and Konate at the back, that they are struggling.
“They are great defenders, world class and even the best in the world sometimes they have a game or something where they don’t give their best.
“If you are a striker, sometimes you can lose the ball and no one realizes it. But a small mistake in the back row is often punished and criticized.
“I have no doubt that we will face the best centre-backs – they have proven that over many years, and this season I have also seen them in many matches: against Real Madrid.” [a 1-0 Champions League home victory] It was a clean sheet win, and against West Ham it was a clean sheet win.
“I don’t want to compare West Ham with Real Madrid, but… UEFA Champions League And the level of the English Premier League they achieved a clean sheet.

Leeds vs Chelsea: Farke supports the players
Farke remained the favorite on Thursday to become the next Premier League manager to leave his post, with his Reds counterpart Arne Slott also among the front-runners after a terrible run by the Dutchman’s standards en route to winning the title in his first season in England in 2024/25.
Leeds had lost six of their previous seven matches before beating the Blues, although they were unlucky to lose to Manchester City’s 91st-minute winner in their previous away game.
Farke suggested: “The good thing we can also take away from the Chelsea game is that we proved we can score in one form or another in every situation: set-pieces, counter-attacks, out of possession, by creating chances through the midfield and the wings.”
“What I like about my team is that we scored three goals against a good defensive team in Chelsea, and we could have scored more. I always support my players to create something and score goals.”
