Josh Inglis sets limited availability for IPL 2026 ahead of the auction

Australian wicket-keeper-batsman Josh Inglis has made his intentions clear that he is prioritizing national duty over fame and finance ahead of the upcoming IPL 2026 auction. Josh Inglis is unlikely to receive much attention after he revealed his plans for next season.

The 30-year-old was already released by Punjab Kings (PBKS) ahead of the IPL 2026 auction and is now available for limited-overs matches next season, citing personal reasons. However, the Australian star is said to be planning to get married next year.

However, the Australian wicket-keeper-batsman has listed himself in the IPL 2026 auction with a base price of Rs 2 crore. Ahead of the auction scheduled in Abu Dhabi on December 16, Inglis informed the BCCI and the franchisees that he could not participate in more than 25% of the tournament.

As reported by Cricbuzz, Josh Inglis will be available for just four matches in IPL 2026. Of the 1,355 players registered for the auction, Inglis is among five players who have reported to the BCCI for limited participation in the upcoming edition of the tournament.

“Inglis informed the BCCI that he will participate in only 25 percent of IPL 2026. In fact, he informed the franchises through the board that he cannot participate in more than four matches,” the report read.

Punjab Kings and Ricky Ponting were aware of Josh Inglis’ plans in IPL 2026

Inglis was among the standout performers for Punjab Kings (PBKS) in IPL 2025. He played 11 matches under Shreyas Iyer, scoring 278 runs, and played a key role in PBKS’ only second appearance in an IPL final. However, PBKS lost the trophy to RCB earlier this year.

However, Punjab Kings head coach Ricky Ponting had already revealed that Inglis’ limited availability made it impossible for the team to retain him.

When announcing the player retentions last month, the PBKS coach said that Inglis had already missed some matches during the previous season for various reasons and had informed management that he would be unavailable for most of the upcoming tournament.

Limited availability of players in Australia and New Zealand shakes up IPL teams’ auction strategy

Apart from Inglis, Australia Ashton Agar BCCI has also informed that he will be available for 65% of the season, while teammate William Sutherland will play 80% of next season. New Zealand Adam Milne Expected to play 95% of the tournament’s matches, South Africa’s Rielly Rousseau will feature in just 20% of the IPL 2026 matches.

Agar has set a base price of Rs 2 crore, but he has played in the IPL before, while the other newcomer, Sutherland, has set a base price of Rs 1 crore. Adam Milne has IPL experience but has not played in the last three seasons and enters the auction at a price tag of Rs 2 crore.

Notably, in the IPL 2026 auction, 10 difference It will fill 77 open slots with a total budget of Rs 237.55 crore. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) has the largest budget at ₹64.30 crore, while Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has the second largest budget at ₹43.4 crore.
