Hiromasa Urakawa: Second Japanese boxer dies from brain injury after Tokyo event

The World Boxing Organization (WBO) saidand external “He mourns the death of the Japanese boxer Heromosa Urakawa, who tragicly surrendered to the injuries he sustained during his battle against Yuji Saito.”

He added: “This tragic news comes a few days after the death of Shigitushi Kotary, who died of wounds suffering in his battle on the same card.

“We expand our deepest condolences to families, friends and Japanese boxing community during this incredibly difficult time.”

After the event, the Japan Boxing Committee (JBC) announced that all the Eastern Federation and Boxing title will now be 10 rounds instead of 12 rounds.

Japanese media reportsand external JBC launched an investigation and plan to hold a meeting in September to discuss deaths.

Uracawa is the third prominent boxer who dies in 2025 after the death of Irish John Kony in February after a fight in Belfast.

Cony died at the age of 28 after suffering from a skull bleeding from his battle against Wilchmann Nathan Hells.
