The former Tottenham captain will be present at the club’s Champions League match next Tuesday to bid farewell to the fans
Heung Min Son He is set to return to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium next month, giving him the opportunity to bid farewell to fans for the first time since his departure from the club in the summer.
Tottenham confirmed that the former captain will be welcomed back during the Champions League match against Slavia Prague on Tuesday, December 9.
Son announced his departure during the club’s pre-season tour of South Korea in August, playing his final match for Tottenham in front of a capacity crowd at the World Cup Stadium in Seoul.
He later joined Los Angeles Football Club MultilateralHe scored nine goals in ten matches before their playoff exit to the Vancouver Whitecaps on November 23.
Tottenham said Son would take to the pitch before the team exited before kick-off, giving him the opportunity to speak directly to the home team’s fans.
It is expected to be an emotional occasion for the player who arrived from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015 and has become one of the most iconic figures in the club’s recent history.
Work has also begun on a new mural on Tottenham High Road dedicated to Son. The artwork, designed by the player and created by Murwalls – the group behind the Ledley King and Harry Kane murals – is due to be completed before his return on December 9.
Speaking about the opportunity to say farewell in person, Son said: “When I announced my difficult decision to leave Tottenham in the summer, it was in Korea and I did not have the appropriate opportunity to say goodbye to the fans in the stadium.
“Now I am very happy that I will be back in London on December 9 for a Champions League match, and I will be able to tell the Tottenham fans in person how much support and love they have been over 10 years for me and my family. It will be emotional, but it is important for me and the club that this happens.”
Son spent ten seasons in League One, making 454 appearances and scoring 173 goals – the fifth highest total in the club’s history.
He is remembered for a long list of historic moments, including the first official goal at Tottenham Hotspur’s new stadium in April 2019 and his role in helping Tottenham reach their first Champions League final later that year.
His individual achievements include winning the FIFA Puskas Award in 2020 for his lone length-of-the-pitch goal against Burnley and claiming the Premier League Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 23 goals.
He also became the highest-scoring Asian player in the history of the English Premier League, and was voted as the best footballer in Asia nine times.
Son’s defining moment came in May 2025, when he led Tottenham to victory in the Europa League in Bilbao. Lifting the trophy made him one of only 13 captains in the club’s history to win the major honor and cemented his legacy in north London.
