Heavyweight boxing legend dies aged 76, says family

Heavyweight legend George Foreman died at the age of 76, according to his family.

Foreman, known as Big George in the Ring, competed for decades starting in the 1960s, and won gold in the Olympic Games and many title belts, including the world title for heavyweight twice.

He lost his first title to Muhammad Ali in their famous tears in the battle of the forest in 1974. But his career in boxing excelled over 76 amazing wins and 68 beating, almost twice that of Ali. Foreman lost five seizures during his career.

He won the first world heavyweight championship in 1973 and then did so again in 1994 when he was 45 years old. He retired from this sport in 1997.

“Our hearts are broken.

“A religious preacher, a loyal husband, a loving father, a great and great grandfather, he lived a life characterized by fixed faith, humility and purpose.”

The statement added: “Humanity, Olympic, and twice the heavyweight hero in the world, was deeply respected – a force for good, a man of discipline, conviction, and his legacy, fighting tirelessly to preserve his good name – to his family,” said the family, describing Foreman in a post on Instagram.

Foreman was born in Marshall, Texas, on January 10, 1949, and he grew up with six brothers by a single mother in the separate American south.

He went out of school and moved to street robbery before finding his outlet in the boxing ring.

Foreman won the gold medal of the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City, 1968, before turning into professionals and won 37 consecutive games.

He defeated the hero of the referee who was not defeated by Joe Fraser in Kingston, Jamaica, in 1973, six times in the first two rounds.

Foreman also witnessed success outside the ring, as he became a preacher and a successful businessman.

He became the man of George Foreman Grill, who has bought millions since he reached the market in 1994, thanks to his kiosk, the “lean barbecue”.

Foreman has dozens of children. Five of his sons, George.

He explained on his website that he called it after him until “they will always have a common thing.”

“I say to them,” If one of us ascends, then we all rise together. “And if someone falls, then we all go together!”
