A Chinese court was sentenced to death 11 members of a notorious family that was running fraud in Myanmar, according to the Chinese government media.
Dozens of Ming family were convicted of criminal activities, as many receive prolonged prison sentences.
The Ming family worked in one of the four clans that managed the sleeper town of Lukkai in Myanmar, close to the border with China, and turned it into a center for gambling, drugs and fraud centers.
Ultimately, Myanmar arrested many members of these families in 2023 and handed them over to the Chinese authorities.
A total of 39 members of the Ming family were sentenced to Monday in the eastern city of Winchu, according to a report issued by the Chinese state broadcaster CCTV.
Besides the 11 members who received the death penalty, five others received the death penalty with a two -year suspension; 11 imprisoned for life. The rest were given prison penalties ranging from five to 24 years.
The court found that since 2015, the Ming family and other criminal groups participated in criminal activities, including fraud in communications, illegal casinos, drug trafficking, and prostitution.
Gambling and fraud activities have established more than 10 billion yuan ($ 1.4 billion; 1 billion pounds), according to the court.

The court also found that the Ming family and other criminal groups were responsible for the death of many fraud center workers, including the shooting of workers in one incident to prevent them from returning to China.
