Ceasefire plan back on table

The Palestinian militants group Hamas says it supports the resumption of a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip through a proposal presented by the brokers, which will witness five other hostages to Israel in exchange for a 50 -day truce.

Khalil Al -Hiyam, the largest Hamas leaders outside Gaza, said that the group had agreed to the draft deal sent by Egyptian and Qatari brokers.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office also received the plan, and made “an anti -mediator offer in full coordination with the United States.”

If he agrees, the new limited ceasefire agreement may coincide with the Muslim Eid Al -Fitr holiday that begins on Sunday.

On Saturday, the Netanyahu office said it had held consultations on the suggestion of the ceasefire from the brokers.

He said that the Israeli antibiotic had been agreed with the United States, but he did not provide more details. The United States publicly did not comment on this issue.

This comes at a time when the Israeli forces launched a ground operation in the welfare and continued to strike through the Gaza Strip after the ceasefire, which came into effect on January 19 earlier this month. Both sides were unable to agree to the second stage of the deal after the end of the first.

During the first stage, Hamas released 33 hostages. The Iranian -backed group is believed to keep 59 hostages, although it is not alive.

Hamas had previously insisted on adhering to the original deal – with negotiations to start the second stage that imagines the launch of all the remaining hostages in exchange for the full withdrawal of the Israeli forces in Gaza and ending the war. But those negotiations have never started.

Instead, Israel and the United States suggested that the first phase of the ceasefire – which expired a month ago, be extended without any clear guarantee that the war will end.

Israel accused Hamas of refusing to extend and on March 18 it resumed its military strikes on Gaza.

More than 900 people were killed over land By Israeli air strikes since then, the Hamas -running Ministry of Health said.

Meanwhile, the relatives of the remaining hostages accused Netanyahu of putting the hostage life in danger by breaking the ceasefire.

One of these hostages, Elkana Bohbot, was shown in a new video published by Hamas, who is pleading with his release.

The war arose when Hamas attacked southern Israel on October 7, 2023, killing about 1,200 people and taking 251 to Gaza as prisoners.

Israel responded to a huge military attack, killing more than 50,000 Palestinians.
