A British man has died after being shot during a robbery in Ghana on Friday, police said.
Ashraf Qarmar Parvez, 68, was shot after he tried to stop an attempt to steal his phone in a drinking shop in Tema, a city located east of the Ghanaian capital, Accra. He later died in hospital, police said.
Authorities in Ghana are searching for the shooter, one of a group of six suspects who they say were at the scene and fled on motorcycles.
The British Foreign Office said it was supporting the family of the man who died.
An empty 9mm bullet casing was recovered from the site of the shooting and police interviewed witnesses as part of their investigation.
The incident raised security concerns in the industrial city of Tema, but a local police spokesman told the BBC that the shooting was a rare incident.
