Brazil’s former President Bolsonaro found guilty of coup plot

The former president of Brazil, Gear Bolsonaro, was convicted of planning a military coup.

The Supreme Court in Brazil reached the majority of the three votes required to find it guilty. One of the judges voted to create it, and another voted yet.

The 70 -year -old was convicted of leading a conspiracy aimed at keeping him in power after losing the 2022 elections for his leftist opponent, Luiz Inosio Lula da Silva.

While the plot failed to recruit adequate support from the army to move forward, it was crowned with the storming of government buildings by Bolsonaro supporters on January 8, 2023, as the judges were found.

The charges bear a heavy penalty and can add up to prison for more than 40 years. The ruling is scheduled to be issued on Friday.

Judge Cármen Lúcia said on Thursday that Bolsonaro had caused the “rebellion” on January 8, 2023, when thousands of his supporters sabotage the Supreme Court, the Presidential Palace, and the Congress.

I found that he was guilty of all five charges: in an attempt to organize a coup, and the leadership of an armed criminal organization, and tried to cancel the violence of democratic law, and another charge related to property damage while storming buildings in Brazilia on January 8, 2023.

Polsonaro has always maintained his innocence and described the trial as a “charming chase”, saying it was of political motives.

His lawyer is expected to resume.

If two out of every five judges vote in the Supreme Court Committee, “not guilty”, his lawyers may demand the full Supreme Court – meaning all 11 judges – a review of the ruling.

Consequently, the final justice vote will be followed to give his rule, Cristiano Zanin, strongly.

Bolsonaro was not in court for any of the final stage sessions of the trial.

His lawyers were martyred for health reasons for his decision to follow the procedures from his home in Brazilia. He was stabbed in the stomach on the Campaign in 2018 and has been suffering from frequent health problems since then.

It has been under house arrest since the beginning of August after a police report claimed that he and his son, Eduardo, tried to interfere in the trial.

His lawyer was present in the court, but he left after Judge Lucia announced his client guilty in the attempted coup and the armed criminal conspiracy, even before he finished speaking.

The charges against Bolsonaro not only contacted the events of January 8, 2023.

Prosecutors said that he began a drawing to stay in power a long time ago, and suggested that a coup of military leaders and sowing unfounded doubts about the electoral system.

They also said that he was aware of the assassination plan to assassinate Lula, his vice president in running, and the Supreme Court judge.
