BBC rejects incorrect White House claims on Gaza coverage

BBC rejected incorrect criticisms at the White House to cover Gaza, describing the claim that it had dropped a story as “completely wrong.”

In surrounding the White House on Tuesday, President Trump Caroline Levit BBC was accused of taking a “word of Hamas” when reporting the number of people who were killed in a shooting near the aid distribution site on Sunday.

She also claimed, wrongly, that the BBC had retreated a story.

“The claim that the BBC had dropped a story after reviewing the shots completely. We have not removed any story as we stand by our press,” the BBC said in a statement.

Caroline Levit BBC has criticized the number of victims in the title address. The company said that its coverage was updated with new numbers throughout the day, which is “a completely natural practice in any quick -motor news story.”

The statement said that the figures were “always attributed to the first number of 15 paramedics, through 31 of the Hamas Ministry of Health, to the final Red Cross statement” at least 21 “in their field hospital.”

There are conflicting reports about what happened near the aid distribution center on Sunday.

Civil witnesses, NGOs and health officials said that people had shot them while waiting for food at the aid distribution point. But the Israeli army said that the reports were wrong, and he denied that its forces were fired at civilians near or inside the site. The Gaza Humanitarian Corporation (GHF), an American and Israel group that now runs the distribution of aid, said the reports were “explicit manufacturing.”

Israel does not allow international news organizations, including the BBC, in Gaza, which makes verification of what is happening in the region is difficult.

On Tuesday, there was a similar incident when local officials said that the Israeli forces shot civilians while trying to collect aid, killing at least 27 people.

The Israeli Defense Army said that its forces fired footage after identifying the suspects who moved towards them “deviating from the specific access methods.”

The White House press secretary also accused the BBC of removing the story because “no evidence of anything can be found” – referring to a BBC report to check the viral video examination.

BBC explained in its statement that this report on Monday, which studied the footage, found that “a virus video posted on social media was not linked to the aid distribution center, which she claimed was appearing.” But the video did not work on the BBC news channels, and did not report it.

“Mixing these two stories is simply misleading. It is very important for people to bring the truth about what is happening in Gaza. International journalists are not currently allowed to enter Gaza and welcome to support the White House in our call to immediate access.”

Israel launched a military campaign in Gaza in response to the Hamas attack across the border on October 7, 2023, where about 1,200 people were killed and 251 others were taken into account.

At least 54,470 people have been killed in Gaza since then, including 4,201 since Israel resumed its attack on March 18, according to the Hamas Ministry of Health in the region.
