Usman Khawaja’s replacement in the Australian line-up, Josh Inglis, started the pink-ball Test quite impressively when he sent Ben Stokes packing with a direct catch. The England captain was stunned by the dismissal.
The Ashes started with Australia ahead of rivals England in Perth as they won the match by 8 wickets after impressive performances by Travis Head and Mitchell Starc.
After taking an early lead in the series they advanced to Brisbane where they played with the pink ball. The Gabba marked one of Australia’s greatest wins and losses. The ground is hosting the first pink ball Test.

Ben Stokes was deceived by a direct hit from Josh Inglis
While England were organizing their innings with skipper Ben Stokes in control along with batsman Joe Root. While the left-hander was already struggling to score from Mitchell Starc, he was deceived when Josh Inglis delivered an exceptional reflex throw.
The wicket-keeper who was not wearing gloves sent the ball into the inner ring, Joe Root returned the England captain who kept his eyes on the ball, Stokes failed to return it in time and Inglis singled for one stump.
Inglis fooled everyone with his batting and the Australians celebrated the wicket as it led to the collapse of the English batting system.
Joe Root scores his first century on Australian soil
The England legend has never scored a century on Australian soil despite his impressive track record for England. He is not only the highest Test run-scorer for England but also the second highest run-scorer in the Test format.
He is only behind the great Sachin Tendulkar and also has more hundreds than any other Test batsman except Tendulkar. However, with over 900 runs in Australia, he has never scored a hundred before.
Joe Root batted until the end of the innings and collected a fifty partnership with Jofra Archer for the last wicket. Root batted throughout the English innings and scored 135 runs at the time of writing.
Mitchell Starc picks another five points. It goes beyond the Indian roundabout
Mitchell Starc picked another six overs in the first innings of the Brisbane Test. This marked his third five-wicket haul in three consecutive matches since the West Indies tour.
Starc has already reached the 415-wicket mark with the dismissal of Harry Brook making him the highest wicket-taker among left-handed seamers in red-ball cricket.
He has surpassed former Pakistan great Wasim Akram and now with wickets to Wheeljack, Jos Atkinson and Brydon Cars Starc has 418 Test wickets surpassing the record set by former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh.
He now stands as the 15th highest wicket-taker in the Test format and is close to the record set by Sean Pollock in Test history. Pollock had 421 wickets and with the innings remaining Starc can extend his tally beyond the former Protea legend.
