Trump gives Hamas Sunday deadline to accept Gaza peace plan

US President Donald Trump gave Hamas a final date to accept an American peace plan for Gaza or to confront “all hell”.

Trump wrote on the social truth platform on Friday that an agreement should be reached by 18:00 Washington time (22:00 GMT) on Sunday.

The plan proposes an immediate end to fight and release within 72 hours of 20 alive Israeli hostages kept by Hamas – as well as the remains of the hostages who believe they are dead – compared to hundreds of Ghazan of the detainees.

It is understood that the Arab and Turkey mediators are pressuring Hamas to obtain a positive response to the proposal, but the senior enthusiasm said that the armed group is likely to reject it.

“If the last opportunity agreement is not reached, then all hell, as it has never been unprecedented, will erupt against Hamas. There will be peace in the Middle East in one way or another,” Trump wrote in fact.

The mediators contacted the head of the Hamas military wing in Gaza, who indicated that it does not agree to the new US ceasefire plan, as BBC understood.

It is believed that some of Qatar’s political leadership is open to accepting the amendments – but it has found its influence limited because they do not control the hostages that the group keeps.

There is another stumbling block for some in Hamas, which is that the plan requires them to deliver all the hostages over the first 72 hours of the ceasefire – giving up the only bargaining segment.

It is believed that there are 48 hostages who are still detained in the Palestinian territories by the armed group, and only 20 of them are alive.

The Israeli army launched a campaign in Gaza in response to the Hamas -led attack on southern Israel on October 7, 2023, where about 1,200 people were killed and 251 others took hostage.

At least 66,288 people have been killed in Israeli attacks in Gaza since then, according to the Hamas Ministry of Health in the region.
