Hamas reportedly preparing for street-to-street fighting as Israeli forces near Gaza City centre

Israeli forces are close to the center of Gaza City, where Hamas fighters were reported to re -gather their ranks amid fears of intense fighting from the street to the street.

Thousands of Palestinians have been forced to flee the city since Israel launched its ground attack last week.

Israel describes the city as an “another stronghold” in Hamas and says its goal is to “eliminate terrorists” and save its 48 -year -old hostages, and it is believed that 20 of them are alive.

BBC scores footage of an Israeli reservoir at the Humaid intersection, about 1.5 km (0.9 miles) from the Central Shiva Hospital. According to what was reported, the Israeli armored vehicles were seen near the main complex of the United Nations in the south of Gaza, about 700 meters (2297 feet) from the center.

BBC spoke to the Hamas character, who claims that the armed group is ready to summon thousands of fighters to the city, raising the fear of intense fighting in the dense urban areas where thousands of civilians remain.

He said that Iz Al -Din, the group’s military commander, ordered all fighters available through the tape to manipulate the city, and asking them to prepare for a “decisive and decisive battle.”

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) estimated last week that up to 3,000 Hamas fighters were in the city. Hamas called that they had 5,000 fighters and threatened suicide attacks, although this was not a tactic that Hamas used widely in this last conflict. BBC cannot independently verify these numbers and has not officially attached Hamas.

International journalists have been prevented by Israel from entering the Gaza Strip independently since the beginning of the war, nearly two years ago, making the requests to verify both sides are difficult. Some journalists were transferred to Gaza by the Israeli Defense Army under control.

Israel is trying to destroy the tunnels in Gaza to prevent the militants who use them to sudden attacks. But the gunman Hamas claimed that some remained sound and that the group learned from the success of Israel in destroying the armed units that tried to adhere to a fight.

Before being killed by Israel, the former military president, Muhammad Dave, issued orders that the armed group should adopt a step towards guerrilla warfare tactics and ambushes to alleviate its catastrophic losses.

According to the residents in Gaza City, Israel responded with this by conducting rapid trends in urban areas, before retreating within hours.

Israeli media also reported that the Israeli Defense Army had used damaged armored vehicles, full of explosives, and equipped with remote control capabilities, to attack Hamas positions or destroy the buildings used to hide the fighters.

The small Quadcopter drones equipped with loudspeakers were also deployed by Israel to warn civilians from leaving, and spread panic in many areas.

Thousands of Palestinian families continued to flee south along the Rashid coastal road, the only way that the Israeli army is currently allowing. On Tuesday, the United Nations estimated that at least 321,000 people have fled south since mid -August. The Israeli Defense Army sets the total number of 640,000.

The trip has become expensive, as families pay more than $ 3,000 (2,450 pounds) for transportation, which exceeds the means of most of the people of Gaza. Many have been forced to give up the property they could not carry on foot.

Those who stay in Gaza City – believed to be hundreds of thousands – face the constant threat of bombing, collapsed hospitals, food and water. A The uninterrupted agency confirmed famine In the area in late August.

The Israeli army launched a campaign in Gaza in response to the Hamas -led attack on southern Israel on October 7, 2023, where about 1,200 people were killed and 251 others took hostage.

At least 65,419 people have been killed in Israeli attacks in Gaza since then, according to the Hamas Ministry of Health in the region.
