Army patrols streets of Kathmandu after fierce protests

Charlotte Scar reports from BBC from Kathmando, where thousands of demonstrators moved to the streets to protest against corruption and favoritism.

The turmoil began when the government banned 26 social media platforms, including WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook – but then turned to embody discontent with the political elite in Nepal.

In the weeks before the ban, the “Nebu Kid” campaign began, highlighting the lifestyle of the children of politicians and allegations of corruption, on social media.

The Prime Minister resigned as the homes of politicians were sabotaged, government buildings were ignited and parliament was beaten.

More than 20 people have died in the turmoil since Monday.

On Wednesday, the capital looked quiet as the army patrolled the streets.
