Seoul returns six North Koreans who drifted south by accident

South Korea, six North Koreans, have mistakenly drifted to South Korea waters earlier this year. The Ministry of Tawheed in Seoul said that the six had constantly expressed their desire to return.

Two North Koreans deviated to the southern waters in March and remained for four months – the longest registered period for non -defendants.

The other four are the sailors who were drifting across the disputed northern borders between the north and the south in May.

This is the first such return under the presidency South Korea Lee Jay MeongWho carried a campaign to improve Inter-Korea relationships. The two countries tried to no avail to coordinate the return for several months.

There were many previous cases of North Koreans unintentionally sailing in the south. They often use small wooden boats that cannot be easily directed to their path as soon as they excel.

In the past, the authorities in the two countries were coordinating to send those who wanted to return to the north through their wild borders.

However, Pyongyang has cut all lines of communication between Korea in April 2023 amid increasing tensions.

Eight months later, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un announced this Monotheism with the south is no longer possible.

The only well -known channels of communication that remains the United Nations leadership led by the United States and through the media.

The Ministry of Unification in Seoul said that it tried twice the north to inform its intention to send these six people to the home through the United Nations leadership, but it did not receive a response.

North Korean patrol ships and fishing boats were seen at the delivery point on Wednesday morning, prompting some observers to believe that two Koreas had agreed on a plan to return home “behind the scenes.”

“If you put a boat in the vast ocean without any coordination, there is a real danger that can be drifted again.”

NAM believes that the six people will be interrogated at length when they return to the north.

“They will be interrogated if they have received any spy training or heard anything sensitive. [It will be] “An intense process aims to extract every other part of the information,” as BBC Korean tells.

Once the investigation is over, they may be asked to help spread advertising. Their desire to return to the north “strengthen legitimacy [Kim’s] Lim Eul-Chul, a professor of North Korean studies at Kyungnam University.

Michael Madden, a North Korea expert from Stemphson Center in Washington, indicated that the boats were drifting in the south when South Korea was led by temporary presidents after the past. President Yoon Sok Yol is isolated.

“This may have delayed some decision -making in both Koreans.

He said: “It is certain that Pyongyang did not trust Yun’s remains in South Korea, and it was possible that both Koreans were open to accusations of returning to the illegal homeland motivated by political globalization by the international community.”

I left the return in the (current North Koreans Be confused.

Activist Lee Min Book says that the six people “should have been given an opportunity to speak with the fugitives and learn more about South Korean society.”

“If I had the opportunity to talk to them, I would tell them the truth [about inter-Korean history] “They warned them that they could eventually face a penalty from the North Korean regime, simply because they have already suffered from life in the south,” says Mr. Lee, who used to float balloons with Kim’s fighting publications in the north.

However, his team of activists has largely suspended their activities because they expect a campaign from the new and supportive administration to participate in South Korea.

The National Assembly in Seoul is currently discussing a draft law for a ban Such a balloon launch.

Lee Jay Mayung, who was elected President of South Korea in June, pledged to a dialogue with Pyongyang and reduce tensions between the two countries.

A week after assuming his post, the South Korea army The promotional broadcast of the loudspeakers was suspended Through the border to North Korea – in what he described as a step “to restore confidence in relations between the Koreans and achieve peace on the Korean Peninsula.”

However, some analysts do not expect a significant improvement in relations between the Koreans.

Selest Arangton, director of the Korean Studies Institute in George Washington, says North Korea “built strong cooperation” with Russia, and now has a “little need” to involve the south.

She says public opinion in the south also indicates a little appetite for engaging with the north.

“Thus, there are a few signals, if any, from the lines of communication between the north and the south, not to mention the important warming of the relationships.”
