Joint footage on the Internet shows hundreds of Palestinians climbing a large hill of dirt – with some vision expanding the scope of a metal fence – as they are pushing to enter a aid site in Gaza run by the Gaza Humanitarian Corporation (GHF).
The Palestinians are seen first awaiting a fence, before sound – outside the camera, with an American accent – screaming. Then they see that they enter the site and scream as they run towards what is supposed to be help.
BBC Check Geolocatide Video to the SDS1 distribution site, west of Rafah. It is said that it was filmed on Tuesday.
GHF is a controversial group of Israel and the United States aimed at overcoming the United Nations as a major resource for aid to the Palestinians.
The United Nations and other relief groups refuse to cooperate with the GHF system, saying it contradicts the humanitarian principles of neutrality, neutrality and independence.
The BBC is close to the GHF for comment.
The video was shared by Alon Lee-Green, an Israeli anti-war activist, who said it was obtained from an employee of the “American company in Gaza”. It was not clear whether this was referring to GHF or one of the private security contractors who employ his aid sites.
In a post on X, Green described the scene as “horrific”.
“But this is not a catastrophic movie, but the hell we created in Gaza,” wrote. “This is what people who are starving, and rushing to food while risking their lives. This is what it seems to strip millions of people.”
Israel does not allow international news organizations, including the BBC, in Gaza, which makes verification of what is happening in the region is difficult.
Almost every day since GHF began distributing aid on May 26, the Palestinians have been killed in an attempt to reach aid near the centers or the other four centers that he has opened so far.
The Hamas -running Ministry of Health in Gaza says that a total of 223 people have been killed, and 1858 others were injured while trying to reach the areas specified to distribute aid since then.
The United States and Israel say the GHF system will prevent the aid stolen by Hamas, which the group denies.
On Wednesday, six other people were said to have been killed by Israeli fire near the GHF site in Rafah, in southern Gaza. The Israeli army said it was looking into reports.
After reports of the killings related to assistance on Tuesday, Philip Lazarini, head of the United Nations Refugee Agency for the Palestinians, said, “Another day to distribute aid is another day of death trap,” said Philip Lazarini, head of the United Nations Refugee Agency for the Palestinians.
“Day after day, injuries and dozens are reported at the distribution points managed by Israeli and private security companies.
“This humiliating system continues to force thousands of hungry and desirable people to walk for dozens of miles except for the most vulnerable and those who live very far away.”
The Israeli army launched a campaign in Gaza in response to the Hamas -led attack on southern Israel on October 7, 2023, where about 1,200 people were killed and 251 others took hostage.
At least 55,104 people have been killed in Gaza since then, according to the Ministry of Health in the region.
