A judge in Wisconsin was arrested by the FBI after he tried to help an undocumented immigrant in her trial to avoid arrest.
Officials said that the FBI agents took the judge of the Milwoki Province Department, Hana Dogan, on Friday morning.
In a post on the X, which was deleted after minutes, the FBI director, Cash Patel, claimed that Dogan allowed Eduardo Flores Ruiz, a Mexican citizen facing three misdemeanors caused by a fight, to escape from the courtroom.
Dogan was accused of obstructing and concealing the individual to avoid arrest, and faces a six -year prison in the event of two charges.
During a hearing on Friday, a lawyer in Dogan said she “is strongly regretted.” “It was not made from the Public Safety Authority.”
She was released on her own confession, pending a hearing on May 15.
A migration judge issued an order to arrest Flores Ruiz on April 17, according to the court documents submitted by the FBI.
The next day, Flores-Ruiz appeared in the Milwoki court to attend a scheduled hearing, officials from the United States for Immigration and Customs (ICE) and the FBI went to the court for arrest.
A special agent at the FBI in the court document wrote that Dogan became annoyed when she learned that immigration agents were in the court and ordered many of them to the office of the President of the Supreme Court in the province.
While there were, as the document says, Judge Flores Ruiz and his lawyer entered a side door for the jury members who were leaving the courtroom.
Flores Ruiz, whom the authorities say had been deported by the United States in 2013, managed to leave the court but was arrested just minutes after a short chase of the foot.
Public Prosecutor Bam Bondi posted on X that Dogan was arrested “with an illegal foreign aid to avoid arrest … no one is above the law.”
Dogan was first elected as a judge in 2016, and it was re -elected for six seconds in 2022.
The judicial elections in Wisconsin state are not partisan, but Dogan was adopted by the Democratic Democratic Mayor.
The suspects of obstacles carry a five -year prison sentence and a fine of $ 250,000, while the accusations of hiding can be punished for up to one year and a fine of $ 100,000.
