Marine Le Pen found guilty in EU funding embezzlement case

France was convicted of Marine Le Pen on charges of misguidance of European funds to finance its right -wing national party (RN).

The judge has not yet said what the ruling will be.

Public Prosecutors said last year that Le Pen’s penalty should not be a fine of 300,000 euros (250,000 pounds), but also the inability to run for public positions for a period of five years.

He said it is important, that his lack of eligibility must be kicking immediately – and he is not suspended pending the appeal that Marin Le Pen is expected to be submitted if convicted.

This would contemplate its hopes to run for the presidency in 2027.

Judges can also decide that there is no automatic importance with its condemnation, which would leave it free to stand in 2027 during the appeal process.

The court can give it a shorter period than automatic importance – for example – one – which makes it possible to manage it.

Le Pen, along with more than 20 other parties, was accused of employment assistants who worked on RN Party affairs instead of the European Parliament that paid them.

During the trial last year, Le Pen denied that she had committed “the lowest violations.”

It is expected that the referee, which started after 10:00 (09:00 GMT), is expected to take up to two hours.
